Choral Ensembles at Smokey Road
The Smokey Road Choral Program meets daily as 6th grade, 7th grade, and 8th grade
connections classes. With the exception approximately 5 after school rehearsals, all music
is learned during the regularly scheduled school day. Students who register for chorus
should plan to commit to one full year of participation.
During the 6th grade year of chorus, students focus on becoming a performance ensemble.
Skill development in the areas of vocal tone, use of breath, vowel and consonant
production, and general music theory are studied throughout the entire year. Music
produced through proper vocal technique is the performance goal for the 6th grade unison
ensemble music produced through proper vocal technique. During the 7th and 8th grade
years of chorus, students continue to use this technique as they study music written with
multiple part voicing.
All students who have a desire to be part of a performance ensemble are always welcome
to join the chorus at Smokey Road. Each spring, open registration is offered for the next
school year. Students who desire to participate in small ensemble and solo studies will have
the opportunity to do so.
